Germany’s 2017 Gamescom Will Be Opened by German Chancellor Angela Merkel

E3 has come, dropped some awesome game announcements (Especially from Ubisoft and Nintendo), and sped off into the night. Now the next video game expo to look forward to is Germany's Gamescom in a few months. This year will be particularly special because Germany's very own Chancellor, Angela Merkel, will be opening the show.

Known for her climate-conscious leadership and participation in the Paris Climate Agreement, Merkel has had a lot of international eyes on her lately. Her participation in the opening of Gamescom this year will likely put gaming in the spotlight for mainstream media. With her positive approval ratings, this will hopefully bode well for our favorite hobby.

"The participation of the Chancellor is a sign of great appreciation for us," said Gerald Böse, President and Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH, the company who organizes Gamescom. "With her visit, she honors the development of Gamescom into one of the most successful and largest events in the German trade fair system."

Gamescom will take place from August 22 to August 26 in Germany. Last year, 345,000 visitors were hosted within its halls, making it the largest games event in the world, even if E3 holds the crown the most reveals.
