Get a free taster of Dead or Alive 6 with F2P ‘Core Fighters’ version

Just two weeks after Koei Tecmo launched the newest installment in their DoA fighting game series with Dead or Alive 6, a Free-to-Play version is now also available. Dubbed Core Fighters, the slimmed-down free fighting game aims to lower the barriers for players to jump in and unlock game content by either grinding or paying.

Dead or Alive 6 came out on March 1st and only two weeks later, a new version of the game is out. Or rather a different one, since Core Fighters is still offering the exact same gameplay of DoA6 just with the majority of the game’s content guarded behind a paywall. The upside being that there is no price tag to play the game at all. A nice alternative for players interested in trying out the cult fighting series.

So, what does this Core Version include then? Players will get access to four characters with Kasumi, Hitomi, Diego and Bass. Compared to the whole roster of 27 fighters, it’s a bit slim but at least there’s a way to unlock new characters by playing the game and accumulating enough in-game currency. But you better be ready to grind for those unlocks.

In terms of stages however, all stages from the regular Dead or Alive 6 are present in Core Fighters which is a great decision not to split the playerbase. The Story Mode is also available here but only in form of the introduction. Fans of the series vast customization options also will be happy to learn that DOA Central is here. This hub provides access to the wardrobe, music, library and theater.

You can either play online or locally in Fight Mode. Training Mode is also available to hone your skills and even the mission-based DOA Quest game mode is present here where you can complete missions to collect currency. For a detailed breakdown of the differences between the regular Dead or Alive 6 and Core Fighters edition visit the game’s website.

Dead or Alive 6 Core Fighters is available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
