The Farm 51, developers of Painkiller: Hell & Damnation, have revealed Get Even, a first-person shooter that looks to blur the lines between the single and multiplayer gameplay experience. With a trailer titled "What is Real?" released alongside the announcement, Get Even doesn't just make it difficult to discern real from fake in terms of graphics, but gameplay as well. Basically, think Dark Souls II-style invading in your game.
"Get Even subtlety removes the classic division between single-player and multiplayer experiences to unfold two linked stories," the official description reads. "When players embark on a single-player mission, others on the network can join the quest as enemies, so players never know whether their opponents are human or CPU-based."
So the whole, "What is Real?" question can also technically apply to actual gameplay as well. Which enemies are real players and which are AI? It's this suspense that The Farm 51 believes will "further heighten the player's feeling of a threat."
As for the actual plot, it revolves around "the memories of its central heroes" which have a "dramatic effect on how the game progresses." Players will be able to shape the personalities of characters through decisions made as the game unfolds. "The carefully crafted storyline mixes elements of thrill and horror with exploration," the description adds.
The actual teaser doesn't spoil too much, but it does give us a nice look into what sort of graphics we can expect when it releases in 2015 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
