Get ready for nine hours of PSN maintenance

Lengthy PSN maintenance scheduled for Monday, May 11

Sony's PlayStation Network will undergo maintenance next week that'll result in certain parts of the service being unavailable for more than nine hours.

The maintenance is scheduled to start on Monday, May 11 at 7:30pm PDT / 10:30pm EDT / 2:30am GMT, and is expected to end on Tuesday, May 12 at 5:00am PDT / 8:00am EDT / 12:00pm GMT.

During this time, you may experience issues with Account Management, PlayStation Video, and PlayStation Store.

Don't worry, though, online gameplay shouldn't be affected as long as you sign into your account (within the past 24 hours on PS4) beforehand.

"During maintenance, online gameplay is available on your PlayStation system if you have recently signed into your account on it (within past 24 hours for PS4). Make sure you sign in on the PlayStation systems that you might want to play online with before the maintenance begins," Sony says

"We endeavour to ensure that PlayStation Network services are available at all times. However, occasionally Sony Entertainment Network may need to be taken offline so we can perform essential maintenance. This is to ensure our network continues to run smoothly and securely and to provide you with new and updated services."

Sony bringing down parts of PSN for maintenance is nothing new, but nine hours is the longest we've seen in quite a while. Sony revealed last week that lifetime sales of PS4 had surpassed 22.3 million worldwide.
