Bethesda's Dishonored made it on a lot of “Game of the Year” contender lists after it released in 2012, and after four years Arkane is finally giving us a sequel. Whilst Corvo, the protagonist of the first game, will feature heavily in Dishonored 2, players will also be able to take control of Empress Emily Kaldwin.
For those who haven’t played the original game, Emily actually featured heavily in the original Dishonored. Although, as a much smaller and much less deadly little girl. She was the daughter of the Empress at the time, who’s assassination was the inciting incident of the entire game. Dishonored revolved around Corvo clearing his name of any involvement in the plot to kill the Empress, take out those who were actually behind it, and keeping Emily safe until she was able to take the throne herself.
Well, it’s now been some time since then, and Emily has flourished as Empress. She has ridden Dunwall of the plague, drained the flooded district which is now a strong financial sector, and created an annual celebration in memory of her deceased mother.
Emily isn’t only a successful Empress. She is now a skillful fighter, training under Corvo in case their should ever be another attempt to overthrow the throne. And wouldn’t ya know, that’s exactly what happens in Dishonored 2! The main difference here being that unlike her mother, Emily survives and must travel to the neighboring city of Karnaca to foil the plot.
In order to take on the forces planning to bring her down, Emily has her own set of cool abilities. Such as Domino, which inflicts damage on multiple opponents with her only having to attack one, or Shadow Walk which allows her to transform into a silhouette to perform stealth kills.
It’s a good thing that Dishonored 2 releases this November, as we won’t have to wait too long to step into the shoes of the Empress of Dunwall! And for more of Emily's new abilities, check out GameInformer's profile!
