Ghostbusters reboot trying to recruit Melissa McCarthy

Who ya gonna call?

Columbia's reboot of Ghostbusters is starting its casting process, and they're eyeing actress Melissa McCarthy.

The new Ghostbusters movie is being directed by Paul Feig, who has worked with McCarthy in other films he directed — The HeatBridesmaids. Though talks are early with McCarthy, the biggest hurdle to overcome is her schedule. McCarthy stars in the CBS TV show Mike & Molly, and she is already packed with an insane movie schedule. She already committed to shoot the comedy Michelle Darnell, being directed by her husband and Tammy collaborator Ben Falcone.

According to THR, there are two other names attached to the reboot; Jillian Bell (Workaholics) and Cecily Strong (SNL) — pictures above — are schedule to meet with Feig about the movie. There are other names that have popped up in rumors too. Everyone keeps wanting Kristen Wiig, who Bill Murray personally mentioned as wanting in the film. Then there's Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone. Stone does have availability, as she recently passed on a role in J.C. Chandor's Deepwater Horizon

It is possible that McCarthy can't be in the film due to scheduling conflicts, which would suck. However, I salivate over the possibility of Emma Stone and Kristen Wiig starring in Ghostbusters. Jennifer Lawrence, on the other hand, I have a hard time picturing her in the film. I welcome it, though. I'm not too familiar with Jillian Bell, but I'm a huge fan of Cecily Strong, who does amazing work, voices, and impressions on Saturday Night Live. My personal favorite role of hers is the "Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation With at a Party."
