It looks like Gigantic is one step closer to fully releasing after Motiga cut progress of the game last year. Publisher Perfect World announced today that Gigantic will enter open beta on Xbox One Game Preview program on December 8th.
James Phinney, The VP of Product Development for Motiga, commented on the game's recent advancements by saying
“We’ve sought to build a game full of intense moments and meaningful strategic choices, where there are many paths to victory and it’s always possible to come back and win. Open Beta and participation in the Xbox Game Preview program is an exciting new phase for the project. We’re really looking forward to partnering with players to finish up Gigantic.”
The free Open Beta features a weekly rotation of six heroes from a roster of 16 and three maps: Siren’s Stand, Ghost Reef and Sanctum Falls. Each hero features a unique playstyle that can be further customized via skill trees during each match. Teams work together to attack enemies while claiming points on the map to summon powerful Creatures. Players can power up their team’s Guardian by controlling the battlefield and defeating enemies. Victory is awarded to the team that overpowers their opponents’ Guardian.
I got a chance to play the closed beta a couple weeks ago, and was impressed with what Motiga and Perfect World have done so far. It definitely adds some unique features, and blends a wide variety of features from different genres. Another closed beta will also be held this weekend beginning December 1st and lasting through Sunday the 4th. Players so far spent a lot of time in the closed beta, dealing damage in the tens of billions according to the infographic below.
