Global Agenda Goes Free-to-Play

The free-to-play MMO club has gained another member. This time it’s Global Agenda: Free Agent from Hi-Rez Studios, who today announced that the latest 1.4 Global Agent patch allows gamers to play free of cost, though new registrants will be required to pay the original purchase fee. So it’s kind of free-to-play.

The much-anticipated Dome Defense Raid has gone live through the patch, and agents at level 40 or above can compete against waves of Recursive Colony bots determined to destroy Dome City.

Previously, users had to pay a monthly bill to compete in the game’s Agency-versus-Agency mode, but all of the game’s content is now available for free. Also included in the patch, players can earn all current in-game items without spending any real money. The level cap has also been removed.

“Today Hi-Rez Studios delivers exceptional class-based shooter combat for free”, said Todd Harris, Hi-Rez Studios COO. “To a free-to-play audience tired of click and wait fantasy MMOs, or unbalanced pay to win shooters, we think that the advanced sci-fi visuals and balanced combat of Global Agenda: Free Agent will be very refreshing. We’ve seen a very positive response from our announcement and have invested in server capacity to handle the increased demand.”

The massively multiplayer third-person shooter boasts AAA graphics powered by Unreal Engine 3 and has fared well with critics, evident by its 71 score on Metacritic. Check out the official Global Agenda website for full patch details and a download of the game.
