Last week at E3, Sony kicked off their press conference to a roaring applause when they revealed a live gameplay demo of God of War. The fourth main entry in the God of War franchise will show the battle hardened Kratos in a new setting with a new partner at his side, his own son. In an interview with Level Up, director Cory Barlog confirmed that the new God of War game will not feature any multiplayer unlike God of War: Ascension.
Barlog also mentioned that Kratos' son won't be a headache or someone you have to babysit, the kid can handle himself in battle. His son also knows that he is a god, but doesn't know of his adventures and the straight up murder of most of his family! From the sounds of it, this is not a reboot like some of us thought.
Sony Santa Monica also updated their website with more info on the highly anticipated PS4 exclusive.
What Lies Ahead
It is a new beginning for Kratos. Living as a man, outside of the shadow of the gods, he seeks solitude in the unfamiliar lands of Norse mythology. With new purpose and his son at his side, Kratos must fight for survival as powerful forces threaten to disrupt the new life he has created…
Midgard and Beyond
Set within the untamed forests, mountains and realms of Norse lore, God of War features a distinctly new setting with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters, and gods.
Vicious, Physical Combat
With an intimate, over-the-shoulder free camera that brings the action closer than ever, combat in God of War is up close, frenetic, and unflinching. Kratos’ axe – powerful, magic and multi-faceted – is a brutal weapon as well as a versatile tool for exploration.
A New Beginning
His Vengeance against the gods of Olympus far behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the lands of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same.
Second Chances
As mentor and protector to a son determined to earn his respect, Kratos is faced with an unexpected opportunity to master the rage that has long defined him. Questioning the dark lineage he’s passed on to his son, he hopes to make amends for the shortcomings of his past.
God of War has no release date at this time but it sounds like a drastic change for the series. Sony Santa Monica has also previously mentioned that they have listened to the complaints of previous God of War titles, such as Kratos being a very one-dimensional character who has no emotional range.
