God of War developer posts job listing for a ‘Senior Multiplayer Programmer’

Did the studio change their mind on God of War 4? Or is this a new game?

Sony Santa Monica is in the midst of working on the upcoming God of War game for PS4, but a job listing has popped up on their website, prompting some to wonder if they are going back on their decision not to include multiplayer in the game. It's also quite possible that that the studio is laying the groundwork for their next project once God of War is completed, but it's impossible to know given how generic the listing is.

There aren't any specific hints pointing at God of War, or any game for that matter in the listing, with only job responsibilities, qualifications, and the old "we want people who are passionate" speech making up the text. If you remember, God of War: Ascension on PS3 had a short-lived multiplayer mode that never really took off.

That said, this upcoming iteration of God of War appears to be a very different kind of game, opting for a more narratively-driven adventure than straight action, so multiplayer doesn't appear to be a fit, at least on the surface. Assuming that the hints of a 2017 release prove to be true, it also seems a bit farfetched for the new God of War to tack on a multiplayer mode, seemingly so late in development.

Then again, stranger things have happened.
