God of War was arguably Sony's biggest surprise from their E3 2016 presser, but since then details about the game have been almost non-existent. Some thought we might see or at least hear something about God of War at last weekend's PlayStation Experience, but Sony Santa Monica Creative Director Cory Barlog shot that down real quick. That, of course, has not stopped fans from inquiring about the state of the game, but fortunately, Barlog was willing to dish out a few details.
When asked if shooting for the game was completed, he revealed that most of it was, though there was still more to be done.
Here's the tweet:
@Filthy_Mortze We finished most of the shooting, but there are still some things to shoot.

There hasn't been anything too major that Barlog has been able to reveal. He has been assuring fans over social media that the team is working hard and that PSX just wasn't the time to show off anything new. Barlog points to "a big push to meet a deadline," so it's pretty apparent that internal development is taking precedence over everything else right now.
Obviously, there is no indication about a concrete release date, but at this point 2017 is feeling a bit early for the new God of War to be ready. Q1 2018 feels more likely, but (hopefully) we will know for sure by E3 2017.
