God of War is one of if not the most anticipated PS4 exclusives on the horizon, mainly because it takes an established series and turns it on its head. Kratos' next adventure is likely to be one of the platform's best games, and like every other developer working on a major IP, there is always an eye on the future. In an interview with Daily Star, Creative Director, Cory Barlog revealed (among other things) that he already has plans for "multiple games."
When asked if the game was a one and done sort of deal, Barlog said:
For me, I am just trying to get this game done.
But I will say that when I chose this story, I had chosen it because I already outlined and mapped out stories for multiple games.
I have an arc in my head that goes well beyond this game and everything that we are doing in God of War, to me, is very much building towards that.
Like you see the second God of War game and it ends with Kratos going up to Olympus. Everybody said that it was the stupidest decision like why are you doing this, nobody wants a cliffhanger ending.
But I was like, whatever, this is awesome. This is telling people more to come, this is great.
And with this game, I think people know that we’re going to be here for a while.
Me personally, I know I’ve got a couple more of these in me.
This is by no means an official confirmation, but assuming all goes as planned with the new direction, you can file this one under "they'd be stupid not to."
God of War was a major focal point of Sony's E3 2017 press conference, showing off a pretty epic trailer that showed off new aspects of the game world. The game is going for a more personal story between Kratos and his son, Atreus, details of which you can get from the Daily Star interview. It's certainly worth a read.
