GOG Galaxy will be launching its biggest update ever with version 1.2 in the coming days which will officially bring an end to its Beta phase. The highlight with the upgrade to version 1.2 is the addition of Universal Cloud Saves, which will be functional with not only modern releases but even the plethora of older titles that GOG has optimized for modern platforms.
Piotr Karwowski, Managing Director at GOG.com, had this to say:
"Losing your save files can be really frustrating. And a big part of gaming legacy, including many of the greatest games, was missing cloud saves – until now. Thanks to the Universal Cloud Saves feature of GOG Galaxy, not only new games, but also the all-time classics and titles which development has been finished years ago, will be upgraded with saves syncing and cloud backup."
On top of that, GOG Galaxy is getting a number of Client customization options, many of which have been long requested by the community. A new Hibernate Mode cuts down on Galaxy's CPU usage, allowing for more resources to be allocated to your game. You will also be able to take advantage of a new bandwidth limiting and scheduling feature, an FPS counter, screenshot capturing, in-game overlay, achievement rarity, a desktop and in-game notifications system, new chat system and more.
If you are signed up as an update tester, you can take advantage of update 1.2 right now. Everyone else will get the update sometime in April.
