GoG.com Sale: Enlighten Software 60 Percent Off

If you haven’t caught on, Good Old Games has a weekend sale on classic games every week. GoG.com is a haven for fans of older or cheap games. They offer downloadable classics, from the prehistoric beginnings of PC gaming to series that still get attention (and sequels) today. This week’s sale presents GoG’s Enlighten Software catalog with a 60 percent discount on their suite of six games.

First up is Capitalism Plus and its sequel Capitalism II (but not the upcoming Capitalism III: “Oh No, It’s Not Working”). It’s almost impossible to envision these games coming out nowadays. The closest comparison would probably be something like Game Dev Story, which isn’t nearly as complex. GoG boasts that Capitalism II can “accurately depict actual world economy.” It may not be as balls-to-the-wall as Crysis 2, but hey, you might actually learn something.

Next on the list are Seven Kingdoms and Seven Kingdoms II: The Fryhtan Wars. These games combine just about every element that defined PC gaming back in the 90s. Not only is it a world-building/city management game, but it’s also an RTS. Trying these will probably put some hair on your chest.

If that’s too much, Restaurant Empire is also on sale. A polygonal game made in 2003, it’s a bit more in line with the streamlined, simplified nature of games as we’ve generally come to know them. It’s also not nearly as well-regarded as the rest of these titles, but if you like restaurant management (and who doesn’t?), you’ll probably have fun with it.

Rounding out the selection is Warlords Battlecry 3, a game that combines RTS and RPG elements. It seems to be a moderately well-regarded game in the GoG.com community, but man, were there a lot of RPG/RTS hybrids for PC in the 90s and 00s.
