GOG.com Taking Pre-Orders for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Good Old Games has made a name for itself as the place to go on the Internet for DRM-free classic PC games, but now the website is offering a chance for fans to pre-order a new game — CD Projekt’s The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

Pre-orders for The Witcher 2 Digital Premium Edition are available now on GOG.com, at no cost, and comes with the goodies you usually expect from a GOG game — unreleased music from the soundtrack, HD wallpapers, avatars and behind-the-scenes photos of the development team at work. The premium edition will also contain other digital content such as in-game soundtracks, a digital art book, a game guide and papercraft figurines.

The online retailer is sweetening its deal even further by throwing in a copy of one of several classic RPGs: Gothic 2 Gold, Realms of Arkania 1+2, Realms of Arkania 3, Divine Divinity or Beyond Divinity.

“No other retailer has this exclusive content that we’re offering on GOG for our pre-order, and no other retailer has our GOG.com Fair Price Package either. Whether you’re a fan of the Witcher franchise or just looking for the easiest place to pre-order The Witcher 2 on the Internet, GOG.com’s unbeatable offer is something you should be sure to check out,” said Guillaume Rambourg, managing director of GOG.com.

The Fair Price Package gives European purchasers a $16 USD GOG.com store credit, and UK customers receive a $6 credit as well, in order to bring the cost of the game down to the same level as their American counterparts. The online retailer is also offering 10 percent off of the purchase, bringing the price of the pre-order down to $44.99 USD, €44.99 EU and £31.49 GBP.

“This one-time offer is a great opportunity to help promote this highly-anticipated RPG by our sister company, CD Projekt RED,” said Rambourg. “Further, by pre-ordering and purchasing their copy of The Witcher 2 from GOG.com, gamers will be supporting the developer more directly, since we’re sister companies. This offer reflects the principles that have made GOG.com so popular to our users, such as quality gaming, great value, and DRM-free downloads. The opportunity to bring this to our community and the internet at large was one that we couldn’t pass up, and we hope that you won’t be able to pass it up either.”

The game is scheduled for release on or around May 17, 2011.
