Google has finally admitted that shoving Google+ down everyone's throat in YouTube was probably a bad idea. Google, in conjunction with YouTube, has revealed that Google+ will no longer be a requirement when you want to 'upload, comment, or create a channel.'
"While we got certain things right, we made a few choices that, in hindsight, we’ve needed to rethink."
The removal of the Google+ requirement from YouTube won't be an overnight change, most changes will come over the "coming weeks." As of today, however, comments made on YouTube won't show up on Google+. One day, you will even be able to delete those Google+ accounts that you were forced to make! Just not yet though, if you try to delete that account right now you will lose all of your data – all of it.
Where Google will go with Google+ after this is an interesting thought. Removing the requirement from YouTube will bring down most of the interaction that Google+ has.
To be clear: Google still owns YouTube and Google+ isn't going away, it's simply being removed as a requirement. If you like commenting with your Google+ account on YouTube, you can keep using it.
