Remember when Internet was still blossoming? When each image took enough time to load that you could run to the bathroom or make toast? Google recognizes those times and wants to bring you your "me" moments back.
By incorporating Dial-Up technology into Google Fiber, Google was able to slow the Fiber photons down by 376 times — bringing their extremely fast Internet back down to 1996 speeds.
The familiar sounds of a 56K modem will lull you into a bored stupor, the lack of loading pages and images will have have you frustrated enough to walk away from the computer, and when you do, you will see what Google was aiming to do. The connection that you aren't able to make on the computer will be made through human interaction. Thank you Google for giving us what was important back to us.
I, for one, missed the sound of a 56K modem and the inherent fear that someone would pick up the phone to make a call while I was connecting. It's good to have you back.
