It would appear that Nintendo has a new mascot of the Ape kind, and his name isn’t Donkey Kong. It’s a gorilla named Bawang who recently got a chance to play a Nintendo DS XL at the San Francisco Zoo.
According to photographer Christina Spicuzza, a boy dropped his system into a gorilla enclosure when Bawang snatched it up. “The gorilla was very interested in trying to figure it out,” Spicuzza said, explaining that the ape flipped it over and put it up to her eyes several times.”
Soon after, a young gorilla named Hansai tried to take the system from her, but apparently did a great job at keeping the game system out of the child’s hand. After a few minutes, one of the zoo’s trainers showed up and convinced Bawang to throw the DS into the crowd in return for an apple.
As for the DS XL, it seemed to have survived the ordeal as it was later stated that the boy and his family inspected the machine over and over and announced that it still worked.
