Gran Turismo 6 sales lagging compared to GT5

Sony hasn't officially announced sales numbers for Gran Turismo 6, but according to analysis firm Cowen & Co, the newest entry in the popular PlayStation exclusive racing ranchise is not living up to its predecessor, Gran Turismo 5. In fact, the firm estimates that only 300,000 copies of GT6 have been sold in the U.S. since its release. Comparitively, Gran Turismo 5 sold 1,169,074 copies over the same period.

Gran Turismo 6 is currently only available on PlayStation3, though the game's creator Kazunori Yamauchi has not ruled out a PS4 release. Rather than offer the racer as a launch title for the PlayStation 4, Sony opted only to release it on PS3 — a questionable decision given that the PS4 only had EA's Need for Speed Rivals as a racing option. Driveclub was originally scheduled as a launch title, but was delayed shortly before the PS4's release for some extra polish. Even so, I don't think anyone saw these disappointing sales coming, especially with the PS3's install base of about 80 million users.
