Grand Theft Auto 4 Gets its First PC Patch in Over Six Years

A makeover years later. Too bad GFWL wasn't patched out

After six years of no news, Grand Theft Auto 4 gets a patch for the PC version of the game. The last patch was in May, 2010.

The patch was primarily to make the game run more smoothly and improve compatibility with modern PCs and operating systems. Grand Theft Auto 4's main storyline is a fairly average story, but the game was mostly prided on its DLC stories involving completely different characters and pushing the boundaries of storytelling at the time. This patch offers an opportunity to revisit the game on a newer PC. Tragically however, the game still relies of Games for Windows Live. A relic of ancient times we all wish would stay in the past.

Patch notes are listed below:

  • Added error code “WTV270” to indicate a problem with connecting to Windows Live Sign in
  • Assistant / Games for Windows Live Servers.

  • Added Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 to compatible OS check.

  • Added Display Controller image in Controller Configuration.

  • Fixed a bug which made completing “Out of Commission” mission impossible when frame rate exceeds 60fps.
  • Fixed a bug with the “Resource Usage” indicator on graphics cards with more than 2GB of VRAM.
  • Fixed a bug that restricted settings changes when using modern video cards.

  • Fixed a bug with the map cross hair on certain resolutions.

  • Fixed a bug with text scrolling in “Brief” Menu.

  • Fixed “drawlist overflow” crash.

  • Minor performance optimizations.
