Grand Theft Auto 5 footage in Gamescom trailer an ‘error’, Rockstar not attending

A spoksperson for Gamescom confirmed that Rockstar will not be attending Europe's largest games convention this year after a trailer for the event featured some footage from Rockstar's highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5.

According to the spokesperson, the included GTA 5 footage was an "error". The clip has since been removed from the Gamescom trailer.

"Rockstar Games is not scheduled and has never been scheduled to exhibit at Gamescom 2012," Frank Fischer told CVG. "We apologize for any confusion this may have caused."

Rockstar shocked the world when they released the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5 about seven months ago, but the highly-anticipated game has been kept a close guarded secret since then. The studio did release two screenshots recently, but no new details have been revealed.
