Grand Theft Auto 5 not yet ruled out for Wii U

Grand Theft Auto has only been confirmed for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but Rockstar Games has not yet ruled out the possibility of releasing it for the Wii U – which launched this weekend in the United States.

According to Rockstar Games' Dan Houser, "Everything else is up for consideration."

"The main thing is we are not… we are a third-party publisher," he told IGN. "We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market."

"If that's on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be. I think that's the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don't make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff," he concluded.

The Nintendo Wii U has already received a good amount of third-party support thanks mostly to Ubisoft's large list of Wii U titles. Other blockbuster titles include Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Mass Effect 3. Surely those will sell well, but GTA 5 could help establish the Wii U as a real competitor in the next-gen console race.
