Grand Theft Auto V announced for PlayStation 5 in 2021

Today, Sony kicked off their PlayStation 5 event by announcing their bringing the biggest game of the last two generations to the next-gen: Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar opened the show with their iconic logo (which was a bit of blue balls, if we’re honest).

The trailer showcased all the glory of Grand Theft Auto V and its online mode over the last 7 years. The game will make its next-gen debut in 2021 and leading up to launch, PS4 players who already have GTA V will get $1 million a month in GTA Online leading up to launch. The trailer also ended by saying PS5 players will get GTA Online for free, seemingly without having to own GTA V.

“The new generation versions of GTA V will feature a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever,” said Rockstar Games in a press release.

The next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V will also feature exclusive content and updates, similar to when the game made the jump to XB1 and PS4. The new updates will be exclusive to next-gen and PC. It’s unclear how long Rockstar intends to support the current versions of the game.

Grand Theft Auto V is out now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC in the meantime. The next-gen port will come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in the second half of 2021.
