The July 2016 NPD report is now out and some of the entries may surprise you! The first half of 2016 has been pretty dry on new game releases so it should come as no surprise to see some of the usual suspects like Call of Duty and NBA 2K16 on this list, but where they are placed exactly may be a bit of a shock!
Grand Theft Auto V released in 2013 on Xbox 360 and PS3, and then it released again on Xbox One and PS4 in 2014, with a PC release to follow in early 2015. It broke records when it first released and it still continues to provide a steady stream of income for Take-Two. Earlier this year they reported that the game has shipped over 65 million copies, which is more than some entire game franchises ship in their entire lifetime. Rockstar's massive action-packed crime game has managed to sneak its way to the top of the NPD list three years after its initial release, topping recently released games like Doom, Overwatch, and Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
