Grand Theft Auto V will finally open its casino this summer

Gamble away all those millions.

Grand Theft Auto V is nothing short of a behemoth. We’re coming up on six years strong of Rockstar’s open-world crime epic and even still, it hasn’t slowed down. Over a hundred million copies and tons of free updates later, Rockstar is prepping for another huge update.

Since 2013, Grand Theft Auto V featured a casino on the edge of Los Santos that had a sign that said “Coming Soon”. Fans took this to mean Rockstar would add it in later but after half a decade and getting nothing, it seemed that nothing was coming. Following the addition of poker in Red Dead Redemption 2, the casino is finally opening in Grand Theft Auto V.

After a few weeks of teasing, Rockstar has confirmed that the casino will be opening this summer. The Diamond Casino and Resort will feature a bunch of luxuries such as gambling, exclusive shopping opportunities, a “Lucky Wheel” which gives you random prizes, and much more.

You’ll also continue to expand your business ventures by owning a piece of the casino if you want. We’re not sure how deep it’ll go but if the nightclub and other businesses are anything to go by, it should be pretty extensive.

There’s no specific release date for the casino update but Rockstar typically doesn’t talk about upcoming updates until they’re very close to release. If we had to take a wild guess, we’d probably say to expect it by the end of July.

It’s not exactly clear why it took six long years for this update to come to Grand Theft Auto V but it could be linked to legal problems. Online gambling is a hot topic, especially within gaming given how people look at loot boxes. With the ability to purchase money in GTA Online with real-world money, it effectively becomes text-book online gambling.

Rockstar may have finally found a way to get around this issue but we likely won’t know until the update itself releases.

Grand Theft Auto V is out now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
