During last night's DC Films: Dawn of the Justice League primetime special, DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns made a surprise announcement that Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Corps will be appearing in the upcoming slate of "Justice League" films.
While we knew Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Flash, and Aquaman would be involved — with some appearing in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice — last night's announcement came as a pleasant surprise.
"We've been to the bottom of the ocean. We've been to ancient Greek mythology, we've been to the past and future with the Flash, we've been to the digital world with Cyborg. We still got to go to space," Johns said during the special. "So the Green Lanterns and the Green Lantern Corps are coming to join the Justice League universe."
Ezra Miller (Flash), Ray Fisher (Cyborg) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) each appeared in the special to discuss their respective characters. No actors were shown to represent Green Lantern, though several pieces of artowrk featuring Hal Jordan and John Stewart, among other Green Lanterns, were shown during Johns' description. It was previously rumored that Hal Jordan and John Stewart would be leading 2020's "Green Lantern Corps" film, which has been described as a "buddy cop movie, like 'Lethal Weapon'" (via Comic Book Resources).
Last night was filled with all sorts of exciting announcements and previews, including an extended look at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a new trailer for Suicide Squad, and the first footage for Wonder Woman's standalone film.
