After enjoying a week of support on Steam Early Access, 'Gremlins, Inc.' has received its first update, bringing with it multiple changes to the framework and design.
Most notable is the addition of leaderboards in the form of a Ranking Ladder, with overall scores determined by your win-to-lose ratio. At the moment, there are just under 100 players who have played a ranked game, but as the player list grows, only the top 200 will appear on this chart.
Additionally, the lobby system has been improved, identifying how many players are online and not already in the middle of a game. You can also hover over each player's name to see their current rank, thus giving you a snapshot of their bureaucratic prowess.
The update also adds a few changes to balance gameplay, including the adjustment of jail events and assigning costs to specific cards. Interface and AI bugs in the previous build have also been corrected.
GameZone interviewed the team behind the board-and-card-game project when the game was still in development, and there was an overriding sense of ambition. That focus has not been lost with the game's launch, for the team is committed to giving the project (and its audience) sufficient time to grow, with the promise of an improved solo mode and new features such as emoticons for online communication.
