Grand Theft Auto Online, the online multiplayer mode for GTA 5, will be down for maintenance tonight, Rockstar Games announced. Maintenance will begin tonight at 9:00pm ET and will run through tomorrow, Thursday, January 16. Rockstar expects it to back up within 24, though nothing is ever a guarantee.
Rockstar didn't give specific reasons or patch notes for the maintenance, but it can be widely assumed that whatever is being done will help rid the game of hackers and cheaters. Rockstar has been battling exploiters since the launch of GTA Online, with the latest patch (update 1.09) specifically cracking down on cheaters. The update improved "anti-cheat" measures while fixing several GTA$ and RP exploits.
In addition to combating exploiters and glitchers, hopefully the maintenance will fix a few other bugs in GTA Online — like the permanent corn rows some players have.
