GTA 5 has sold about 34 million copies worldwide

Coming to Xbox One and PS4 next month

Grand Theft Auto 5, the over-the-top, open-world action title from Rockstar Games, has sold about 34 million copies worldwide. This number, which was shared by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick during the company's latest earnings call, includes sales of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game dating back to the launch in September 2013.

As you're probably aware, GTA 5 is also on track to release on Xbox One and PS4 on November 18 and PC on January 27, 2015. This should push sales of the game even further, as Zelnick expressed belief that there's still an opportunity to reach people who hadn't yet enjoyed the title on last-gen systems.

"In terms of GTA 5, obviously, having sold something like 34 million units of GTA 5 for what is now a prior gen, we know we're attracting a very significant core gamer audience and we also attracted people who are not core gamers," Zelnick said. "But we don't think we had 100% market share of everyone who had platforms, and so we do think there's an opportunity for people who haven't yet enjoyed the title to enjoy it for next gen."
