When Rockstar Games first introduced GTA Online — the online multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto 5 — the developer promised that heists would be added to the game shortly. Fast forward a year later, we've now got GTA 5 coming to Xbox One and PS4; still no heists.
Apparently, they are coming "soon." The brief quote comes from Rockstar Games via IGN's latest video looking at GTA Online. It's not much, but it's the latest we've heard on the feature.
For those unfamiliar, Heists are more elaborate story missions in the single player portion of GTA 5. Each requires careful preparation, as players are presented with options on how to approach the proposed mission. Once you have clear objectives you must perform a series of sub-missions before tackling the bigger job. Heists were some of the best moments in GTA 5's campaign, and completing them with a group of friends online sounds like it would be a ton of fun. Unfortunately, we don't quite know yet.
Rockstar last provided a brief statement back in June, addressing the delayed release of heists, which were originally supposed to be implemented in the spring of this year, but didn't offer any sort of explanation. "We are very sorry for the delay, and are working hard to bring them to you as soon as we can," Rockstar said. "Please know that we are focused as always on making the best possible content for you to play and we are thankful to all of you for your patience, understanding and support."
With the PS4 and Xbox One version coming this month, hopefully it'll give Rockstar more time to focus on GTA Online features. If that's the case, maybe we could expect heists to arrive in early 2015.
