The update that brought Ill-Gotten Gains Part 2 to Grand Theft Auto 5 last week apparently brought more with it than new vehicles and weapons. Title Update 1.28 brought about 'considerably lower framerates' on the PC version of the game.
Rockstar looked into the reports of lower framerates and found that the reports weren't baseless. There was an issues, that issue has now been resolved with a Title Update.
Rockstar updated a thread yesterday saying that all a player would need to do is connect to the internet, download the update and boom — framerates fixed. Once again, this update seems to have brought something else along with it… Users are now reporting that mods in are being blocked in Story Mode post-update.
Rockstar has released a statement on this, defending that they are not actively targeting any players using mods and suggest that the mods may not work because of the new updates (the mods probably have to be updated to fit the current version of the game).
“We also received some reports linking decreased performance when using Story Mode mods to TU 1.28. As mentioned previously, we are not actively targeting players using mods in Story Mode, nor are we explicitly implementing protections against them in-game.
Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing. However, as a reminder, mods are still unauthorized and as such, Title Updates may cause Story Mode mods to behave in unexpected ways because they are not supported or tested, and players run them at their own risk.”
Rockstar has said that they are fine with mods in Story Mode before, just not in GTA Online. They don't seem to be changing their tune on that subject any time soon.
