Rockstar Games has announced Grand Theft Auto 5's highly anticipated update will arrive next wee on Tuesday, September 15th. We've known for a while that the update, which brings Rockstar Editor to consoles (with new features), would arrive in September, the exact date was confirmed today in a post that also introduced another feature coming to GTA Online.
Announced today, the update will also bring Freemode Events to GTA Online in the Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto 5. As explained in our previous post, Freemode Events offer a completely open gameplay experience by seamlessly integrating games and challenges into GTA Online's Freemode.
Aside from the surprise of Freemode Events, fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Rockstar Editor on consoles — which will also arrive with the update on September 15th. This movie-making feature, which was previously only available on PC, will allow players to create their own movies and clips from in-game footage. The update will bring new features, including an ambiet audio and sound effects library, Snapmatic integration, Director Mode udpates, and more.
As Rockstar previously hinted, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of GTA 5 will not support this update, or likely any others of this magnitude in the future.
