Fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise should take notice. A new open-world action-adventure set in the seedy criminal world of Brazil is incoming. Titled 171, the game has now been confirmed to come to PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch. Check out the new trailer below!
Rockstar has perfected the GTA formula with GTA V which is still going strong as ever even after seven years. Millions of people are still buying and playing the game like there is no tomorrow. Impressive support by the developer in the form of new content for GTA Online in particular made it one of if not the most profitable entertainment product of all time.
But that doesn’t mean that others shouldn’t try where Rockstar succeeded. Brazilian development studio Betagames Group is trying to create a worthwhile experience in a similar vein with 171. The open-world crime game is fittingly set in Brazil which is notorious for having a large criminal underworld. As such, the setting is a perfect fit.
The developers are openly stating that 171 is a game in the same vein as GTA, and that’s not a bad thing. Rockstar still hasn’t revealed let alone released a sequel to GTA V and with the game being confirmed to come for next-gen consoles, we won’t hold our breaths.
171 could become a sleeper hit by filling the desire of gamers worldwide for a gripping and realistic modern gangster game. There’s a lot of in-dev footage of the game on the official YouTube channel which you can check out and going by it, 171 isn’t holding any punches. Anyone who played GTA V ought to feel right at home here.
Just don’t expect the same level of production quality from a small Brazilian studio like the juggernaut that is Rockstar. There is no release date for the game yet but Switch owners, in particular, should be excited for 171 since they have literally no GTA game on their system at all.
