Guacamelee! patch error breaks the game for some

DrinkBox Studios released a patch today that adds easy character swapping to Guacamelee! on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. It also preps the game for its first downloadable content release, a costume pack. Unfortunately, it's also creating serious problems for some players.

"We’ve discovered that there is a serious error in the patch that went live today," the studio wrote on its blog. "If you had a game saved after obtaining the 'Pollo Power,' downloading and installing the patch will cause you to be unable to swap back into a luchador from chicken mode, essentially blocking progression."

DrinkBox has pulled the patch, but it's still affecting a number of gamers who have updated the title since the patch went live. Not to fret, though:

"If you have downloaded the patch already and are experiencing this issue, PS3 players are advised to delete Guacamelee from their system and redownload it," wrote DrinkBox. "This will give you a non-patched version of the game, and your save game should work correctly.

"Vita players should perform a cloud save (via the in-game options menu), then delete and re-download Guacamelee. Vita owners can then pull their save game from the cloud to retain their progress."

DrinkBox, however, is back at square one with the costume pack, which depends on the patch. The studio is working on a fix.
