We lost count on the amount times there were rumors of Ben Affleck's The Batman being in trouble, and yesterday we finally learned that Affleck had removed himself from the director position but would still star in the film.
Today, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn held an impromptu Q&A on his Facebook page when he was asked about who he thinks would be a good director. The response was interesting as it wasn't one of the top director names being floated around. Gunn noted that "If Jeremy Saulnier was interested, he'd be a good choice."
Two of Saulnier's main films are Blue Ruin and Green Room which were both dark, psychological horror movies. It would be a relatively smooth transition, as Batman has always blended action with psychological turmoil and investigations.
There is no timetable now at all for The Batman, but it was originally scheduled to release in October 2018. Although it hasn't been officially said yet, there is no way this can happen with no director currently on the payroll. DC and Warner still need to sort out The Flash and Justice League 2 which have also been hit with delays.
The DCEU has started to become a mess logistically, and hopefully, it gets back on track soon. More to come.
