E3 is usually used as a big week for publishers and developers to advertise their new games. Big flashy press conferences in huge auditoriums host scripted, onstage demos for the next AAA hit coming this fall, a bunch of PR people come out and read off a teleprompter, and some journalists and fans get to play demos that are specifically designed to show off the cool parts.
With E3 2017, things are changing. For the first time ever, the show is open to the public (if you bought a ticket) and there will be keynotes from famous developers and celebrities discussing important topics in gaming. The first confirmed celebrity for E3 2017 is none other than critically acclaimed director James Gunn. If the name doesn't ring a bell, the movies he's made probably will. Gunn directed both the original Guardians of the Galaxy and the recently released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (which is excellent). In addition to making movies, Gunn also wrote the story for the hack and slash zombie game, Lolipop Chainsaw.
It's not clear what he'll talk about quite yet but Gunn has a knack for style and creating amazing worlds in his films, one has to imagine it'll have to deal with something about creating unique worlds or stylish products in the entertainment industry and how it can apply to video games.
