As it was previously reported earlier today, Horizon: Zero Dawn has already passed the 2.6 million mark in total sales. In what should be a surprise to no one, we have not seen the end of the game. Guerrilla's Managing Director, Hermen Hulst said in a press release that the developers are "already hard at work on an expansion to the story."
What's interesting here is that Hulst uses the word "expansion" as opposed to "DLC," could potentially mean that more sizable offerings are in the works. Horizon: Zero Dawn takes inspiration from a variety of sources, one of the biggest being The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, namely in its ability to provide meaningful side quests.
Wild Hunt was one of the first RPGs to deliver an "expansion" versus the traditional DLC, and the success it had with both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine was well documented. This kind of expansion strategy has yet to be imitated at least on as similar a scale, and given the incredible world that Horizon: Zero Dawn has built, and expansion would be most welcome.
Who knows; we may even get an expansion with a different protagonist.
