Gunheart gets launch trailer, features cross-platform Co-Op campaign & VR

After initially debuting on Steam Early Access last summer, self-titled Co-Op RPG shooter Gunheart has completed development, bringing with it a launch trailer. The first-person shooter is available on Steam and the Oculus Store.

The small team behind Gunheart, Drifter Entertainment, consists of some serious industry talent. Co-founder and CEO Ray Davis, for example, brings years of experience from his job as General Manager of Unreal Engine 4 and lead programmer for Gears of War 1 and 2. Among the team are also veterans of the gaming industry who worked on blockbuster titles like Halo, Doom and Quake. And this pedigree for shooting excellence shows.

Gunheart is a futuristic FPS which can be played on traditional monitors but also in VR. Besides offering full support for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets, even Windows Mixed Reality devices are supported. What is also worthy of note, is that the developers enabled cross-platform play between all headsets! In the still fledgling virtual reality landscape, this decision looks to be a wise one, to keep the player base as high as possible. Especially since Gunheart does offer players a Co-Op experience, besides traditional singleplayer and multiplayer modes.

Set on gorgeously vibrant and colorful planets, humanity fights bug-like alien creatures, Anthromites, the player finds his conscience implanted into a robot bounty hunter. Throughout 9 campaigns and 11 challenge missions, you will face a variety of enemy types and bosses, battling them in unique environments, earning money and upgrading and customizing your gear and robotic alter-ego. With a robust PvP mode, players will also have the chance to go head-to-head with each other. Gunheart not only aims to set itself apart in terms of game length but also offers a breadth of deadly tools with 10 unique weapons and over 40 modifications. A very welcoming amount of content which should make replaying the story and challenge missions a fresh experience each time.

Players of the Early Access version of Gunheart have been praising the game for its beautiful visuals, great implementation of movement in VR, tight controls and fun gameplay which is very promising for players interested in getting on the action. Although shooter games are a prime candidate for virtual reality, the platform has yet to receive a definitive experience, similar to how Halo showed everyone how FPS were made for consoles in the early 2000s. While there are indeed great VR FPS games available, Gunheart shows extraordinary potential in its production quality, visuals, mechanics and content. No doubt thanks to developer Drifter’s long experience making great shooters.

As a promotion you’l be able to get Gunheart 10% off until June 11th on Steam and the Oculus Store. Check out the full release launch trailer!
