Gwent: The Witcher Card Game just got a massive new update featuring new cards and ranked play

The Gwent closed beta has been in full swing for about a month now, and CD Projekt RED has just released an update for the game that is arguably its biggest one yet. Patch 0.8.33 released yesterday and is headlined by the introduction of ranked matches, a redesigned player progression system, and over a few dozen new cards. If you want, you can check out the full list of changes here

Here's a bullet list of the points you need to know:

  • Ranked play is now a part of the game, and currently, features a ranking scale from 1-15.
  • The player progression system got the biggest boost, which now revolves around players winning individual rounds rather than full matches. Progressing through the rewards system revolves around winning six rounds rather than three games and are represented by unlocking "crown halves."
  • The level system has also been changed and is now capped at 100. Any player previously above level 10 will be brought back down to ten so that they can be more in line with the new progression system.
  • Rewards and feature unlocks for progressing between levels 2-100 have been added.
  • Over two dozen additional cards have been added as well as animated premium versions for certain ones.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game continues to quietly chug along through its closed beta. If you haven't yet signed up for it and wish to take part, you can do so by heading over here.
