More than a year has passed since Kirby: Triple Deluxe released for the Nintendo 3DS, and HAL Laboratory has been using their verified status on Miiverse to offer behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the adventure. Their most recent entry covers the design choices surrounding the boss fights in the game's back half.
So as to imbue the game with palpable tension, the lead programmer on the project shared the importance of the role served by the camera in boss battles. An idea spawned from another programmer to take momentary focal points from the otherwise stationary viewpoint, and instead have the camera follow bosses throughout a given battle. This implementation of putting the camera to more work is cited as the reason for the game's later bosses being as tense as they are, although its fluidity makes the contrast against earlier battles easy to overlook.
In past months, the team has also gathered input from various team members on user interface, gyroscope functionality and music. Such insights should give players a greater appreciation for the design of Kirby: Triple Deluxe, which has sold more than one million units worldwide.
