Half-Life 2 has been updated with Oculus Rift compatibility. Sorry, no Half-Life 3… yet.
"To get it, open the properties for HL2 in Steam, set your command line to "-vr", and opt-in to the SteamPipe beta. This should ship to everybody in a few weeks," Valve programmer Joe Ludwing said on the device's developer forums.
Ludwig added that Half-Life 2's Oculus Rift support is "a bit more raw" than that of Team Fortress 2 when it shipped. Ludwig specifically mentioned zoom UI issues and a "dim and hard to read" HUD.
Last month, we had a chance to go hands-on with the Oculus, running games like Mirror's Edge, Team Fortress 2, and even Skyrim. While the games were not without a few bugs, I definitely had a nice taste of what looks like a very possible future for gaming. And surprisingly, it's not something totally stupid. *cough* Kinect *cough*
