Half-Life remake Black Mesa shows Definitive Edition upgrades

One of the best remakes ever is soon getting even better. Crowbar Collective revealed that they are working on a Black Mesa Definitive Edition. The best part? Owners of the game can already try it out.

It’s really heartwarming to see fans pour so much love into their favorite franchise. But the part that makes this even better is that Valve officially condones Black Mesa. It’s that support from the original IP holder that allowed Black Mesa to materialize at all.

In an industry where fan remakes, sequels, and sometimes even mods lead to publishers sending out their lawyer to stop fans, Valve deserves every bit of applause on how they handle their IPs.

After more than a decade in development, Black Mesa finally fully released earlier this year to resounding success. It’s everything fans of the legendary FPS wished for.

But Crowbar Collective still isn’t done it appears. The studio released an announcement on Steam that a Definitive Edition is in the works currently. Not only that, but owners of Black Mesa can play a beta build of it already.

The Definitive Edition goes way beyond graphical touches as well. For example, the new dynamic lighting system now allows for some areas to transform into almost horror experiences. But fret not, as explained in the new update, the developers use it to elevate the atmosphere and gameplay of certain levels. Not change the general vision for Half-Life as a whole.

But of course, pretty much every level received visual upgrades. With the remake in dev for so long, it’s only natural that parts of the remake had to be remade again.

Black Mesa is currently on sale during the Steam Halloween Sale where you can get it for just $9.99.
