In 2018, Universal released a well-received continuation to the iconic slasher film, Halloween. While there have been many sequels since the original, the 2018 version retcons everything after the first movie, making it the canonical “Halloween 2”.
Shortly afterwards, they announced there would be two more films that would cap off this all-new trilogy. The two would be titled Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends respectively, releasing back to back years. Sadly, the plan has changed.
Halloween Kills’ October 2020 release date has shifted all the way to October 2021 leaving Halloween Ends with no release date right now. It’s expected the finale will probably release in fall 2022 but given the unpredictable nature of the coronavirus, it’s tough to say.
Halloween creator John Carpenter issued a statement on social media revealing Halloween Kills will now receive an IMAX release and more time to work on the final cut.
“Universal has agreed to an IMAX presentation of the film in October 2021. We are sound mixing with one of the greatest design teams that can slash, scream, and creep their way under your skin. We’re going to have time to complete the film with the quality the fans deserve. And preparation on Halloween Ends has begun as well.”
Carpenter also shared a small look at the upcoming sequel via a teaser which shows Laurie, Allyson, and Karen Strode escaping the site where they attempt to kill Michael Myers. As they’re driving away, they notice fire trucks on the way to put out the flames of the house they had lit on fire with Myers inside.
Halloween Kills will now release in October 2021.
