Halo 5’s ‘Hunt the Truth’ Season Two debuts tomorrow

Season two of Halo 5's investigative audio series, Hunt the Truth, will premiere tomorrow, September 22, and TIME has released an exclusive preview of the debut episode.

According to exclusive details shared by Halo franchise development director Frank O’Connor, Hunt the Truth creative director Noah Eichen and season two lead Janina Gavankar, the new season of Hunt the Truth will answer many of the questions fans were left to speculate at the end of season one, which followed the audio diary of war journalist Benjamin Giraud as he investigated the story behind Master Chief while uncovering hidden secrets of Halo's Office of Naval Intelligence.

Season two picks up shortly after the events of the first season, and addresses the implications of Ben's revelations. The difference this time around is that season two have a different narrator — FERO, the rebel leader who saved Ben in season one. Hunt the Truth's creators are taking a page out of True Detective, opting for a style different from another season of "journalist tells a story."

“Ben’s story covered a lot,” Eichen explained. “And where we landed with season two tells a story that’s very different from season one and allows us to get a little bit closer to the action than I think we would have been able to be in canon otherwise.”

As a result of the change, season two will have a different tone. "It’s not a person making a show, it’s not a host who’s making this for an audience,” he continued. “I started thinking about it likeTrue Detective season one, where it’s a person recalling events. And it’s a little more like a horror film to me, there’s some really horrific stuff going on as we get closer to Halo 5.”

Season Two, which debuts tomorrow, will be shorter than the first season, but episodes will be longer. It's scheduled to run up until the October 27th release of Halo 5. You can listen to brief preview from the first episode over at TIME.
