Halo composer wins nearly $100,000 in lawsuit against Bungie exec after being fired ‘without cause’

Marty O’Donnell, best known for the thumping and iconic music of Halo, has won a lawsuit against Bungie chief executive Harold Ryan, Venturebeat reports.

The deal will see Ryan pay O’Donnell more than $95,000, split among unused employee benefits, damages and legal fees. The sum was awarded in light of Bungie's company policy promising payment for unused vacation time, sabbatical, time off and other benefits.

King County Superior Court judge Jeffrey Ramsdell oversaw the case, which began May 1, roughly three weeks after O’Donnell was fired, which he claims was “without cause.”

Bungie addressed the firing in a profoundly aimless statement in April, reportedly agreeing to pay O'Donnell. But on May 27 both the studio and Ryan himself claimed the composer was not entitled to any sort of relief.

With the lawsuit’s recent conclusion, O’Donnell will receive $95,019.13.
