Master Chief is the main character of Halo 5: Guardians. He's the hero, despite what actor Mike Colter thinks.
Colter, who plays Agent Locke in the upcoming Halo: Nightfall television series, sparked some speculation when he told X-One magazine (via CVG) that his character is the "primary character" you'll be playing as in Halo 5.
"Yeah, I'm a playable character in Halo 5," he told the website. "Once Halo: The Master Chief Collection is released, and then Halo 5 comes out shortly thereafter, you're basically going to be playing a game with me as the primary character."
Responding to the interview, Halo franchise director Frank O'Connor was quick to clarify that Locke is "'A' primary character."
"Chief is the main character and hero," he said, adding that the studio isn't testing the waters to retire Master Chief.
Phew, crisis averted. Rest easy, folks, Master Chief isn't going anywhere. But is that really a good thing? I don't know about you, but Halo 4 was a bit stale for me. Perhaps a change in protagonist is what the series needs.
