343 Industries shared important new details about Halo Infinite. Master Chief’s next-gen outing now targets Fall 2021 for release. The entire blog post is worth a read, as it gives insight into the developers’ targets. So, make sure to read it!
Without a doubt, the delay is a lot longer than expected. As you might remember, Halo Infinite was supposed to be the big launch title for the Xbox Series X|S. Microsoft decided to delay the game after the gameplay reveal, however.
The main reason for this was disappointed fans. Halo fans simply expected Halo Infinite to look much better. This stood out even more after Sony released the gorgeous Ghost of Tsushima on the aging PS4. The additional time clearly helps improve that aspect. That much is obvious, now that the studio shared the first new images.

Sure, we only got a few images, and they are likely the most impressive examples. Still, what we see is promising. Model detail and lighting, in particular, look like a huge improvement over the initial reveal.
Reworking an integral part of Halo Infinite like the visuals takes time. As a result, the long delay makes a lot of sense. Recent comments by the studio also hinted at a soft reboot of development.
A delay of an entire year gives more credibility to that theory. Obviously, we would like to see new gameplay immediately. But 343 Industries already ruled that out for the remaining year. So, keep your expectations in check for this weekend’s The Game Awards 2020.
