Halo Infinite will not be at this year’s The Game Awards

343 Industries poured cold water on Halo fans who were hoping to see more about Halo Infinite during this year’s The Game Awards show. That will definitely not happen as the team is currently at work on pretty much all aspects of the game.

When Microsoft finally revealed gameplay footage for Halo Infinite for the first time earlier this summer, the reception wasn’t that great, to say the least. In fact, it was so bad that a new meme was born. Craig, the disappointed grunt.

In the end, 343 delayed the game into 2021. A massive blow towards the Xbox Series X|S. Infinite was planned to be the big launch title. Hence, why many early adopters of Microsoft’s next-gen system lament the lack of proper launch exclusives.

I know it’s hard to wait, but the team is going to make the most of this extra time and we want to make sure we can put our best foot forward and commit to greater transparency and dialog on the road ahead. We’ll get there and get the train going again.

Nonetheless, 343 Industries and Microsoft made the hard choice. Not only that, but the developer hired Halo veteran game designers to improve Halo Infinite, as well. It wasn’t clear what the target was, to be honest. Would it be just a touch-up for the visuals? Or deeper game design changes?

Now, more evidence surfaces that Halo Infinite is currently undergoing a massive overhaul. After users on Reddit speculated whether the game would show up during this year’s TGA, a 343 Industries employee jumped in and outright squashed any hopes.

Not only that, but his statement paints a picture where pretty much everything about the old Halo Infinite is being reworked currently. This gives credibility to speculations that the initial bad impression led to a soft reboot in development.

At least, 343 reassures fans that a ‘high level update‘ in regard to Infinite will drop in the coming weeks.
