Halo Wars 2: Awakening The Nightmare story expansion gets a release date

As revealed during E3 2017, Halo Wars 2 is getting a Flood-themed story expansion called Awakening The Nightmare, though details on its release have been non-existent. This has all changed courtesy of a new update on Halo Waypoint which has revealed that the expansion will release on September 26th, 2017. Players will step into the shoes of The Banished and fend off The Flood threat to the Ark.

The Flood isn't new to the Halo universe, but they are new to Halo Wars 2, and as Halo Waypoint acknowledges, their presence changes things up regarding strategy game mechanics. They are an ever-changing threat that can manifest themselves into different things depending on the situation, so they are highly adaptable, forcing the player to be equally so.

On top of a new story expansion, Awakening The Nightmare also adds a new mode called Terminus Firefight which you can check out in the trailer above. Terminus Firefight, lets you play solo or with friends as any of the game's leaders against a never-ending rush of randomized enemy waves.

Halo Wars 2 is available now on Xbox One and PC.
