Halo: Reach Breaks First Day Sales Record

It probably comes as no surprise, but today Microsoft announced that the latest installment of its mega popular Halo franchise, Halo: Reach, has made history by becoming the biggest U.S. entertainment launch of 2010.

Reach generated more than $200 million in sales in the U.S. and Europe in the first 24 hours following its launch on Tuesday. That’s more money than Hollywood blockbusters Iron Man 2, Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3 made in their three-day opening weekends.

Tens of thousands of retail stores around the world hosted midnight launch events on Monday night to celebrate the arrival of Halo: Reach. Thousands of fans gathered to compete in tournaments, win special prizes and meet the creators of the Halo universe. Those who attended the launch in London’s Trafalgar Square were treated to what is probably the coolest publicity stunt ever, when a man dressed as a spartan flew into the square using an actual jetpack!
